The Encyclopaedia Britannica defines ice as "solid water." It is common knowledge that water or water vapor transforms into ice at temperatures below zero degrees Celsius or 32 degrees Fahrenheit. But how is this feat accomplished?
The molecules in water are constantly moving. As the liquid cools, they move more slowly.
As the movement slows, the molecules begin to stick to each other and to particles in the water known as crystal-seed. When they line up in a crystalline formation, ice is formed!
Did you know? Under certain conditions, water can become as cold at -40 degrees Celsius and remain a liquid!
This phenomenon is known as super-cooling. The water must be extremely pure and in a very smooth-sided container.

In nature, ice forms in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, on the tops of mountains, and in temperate regions experiencing the winter season. Ice is often associated with creatures such as polar bears and penguins.
Ice cubes, however, are more often a symbol of summer, floating in beverages such as soda, iced tea, or lemonade.
Would you like to draw a cartoon ice cube? This easy, step-by-step cartoon drawing tutorial is here to show you how. All you will need is a pen, pencil, marker, or crayon and a sheet of paper.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing an Ice Cube
1. Begin outlining the imperfect cube. Use curved lines to draw the sides, and make sure the corners are rounded.
2. Complete the cube by drawing a parallelogram on the top. Use curved lines, and make sure they meet at rounded corners.
3. Draw a curved line to divide the front face of the cube from the side. Draw curved lines along the top sides and bottom corner.
4. Draw more curved lines along the edges, adding to the three-dimensional appearance. Then, draw intersecting curved lines across the top face and the bottom corner - cracks in the ice.
5. Draw pairs of short lines and curved lines to texture the ice. Draw a "U" shaped line on the face to indicate a droplet of water as the ice begins to melt.
6. Draw wavy lines in a "Y" shape across the three visible faces of the cube, outlining the bottom, back, and far sides of the cube as seen through the translucent ice.
7. Draw another "U" shaped line, indicating another droplet of water. Then, draw a long wavy line around the ice cube to form the puddle of melt water around the ice cube.
8. Continue the long curved line to outline the puddle.
9. Complete the puddle using a curved line. Draw a curved line on the side of the ice cube to form another melting droplet. Draw ripples around the corners of the ice cube using curved lines. Then, enclose several oval-shaped droplets of water outside the puddle proper.
Color your cartoon ice cube. Ice is typically clear, blue, or white in color.
